The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House a request that the posted speed limit on a section of 4AK Road, Oakey be reduced from 80 km/h to 60 km/h due to significant and ongoing safety concerns.

This section of 4AK Road is registered by the Queensland Government as a road safety black spot, indicating a history of traffic crashes and an elevated level of risk. This designation alone warrants a review of the current speed environment.

The road is experiencing increasing use by vulnerable and local road users, including pedestrians (such as families and children), animals including horses and dogs, school buses, and residents accessing nearby rural properties. In addition, an establishing residential estate within this section of road will soon generate increased traffic volumes as development progresses and residents move into the area.

Queensland Government crash data confirms that traffic incidents have occurred on this road segment. Notable reported incidents include a fatal hit-and-run in August 2022 and a serious multi-vehicle collision in October 2024 that required medical evacuation.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all within its power to request the Department of Main Roads assess and reduce the speed limit for the following section of 4AK Road Oakey:

From: Intersection of Hamlyn Road & 4AK Road (Approx. coordinates: 27°27′08.8″S 151°43′34.3″E)
To: Start of the straight road, near 341 4AK Road, Oakey QLD 4401 (Approx. coordinates: 27°27′38.7″S 151°46′07.6″E)
