4405-26 Town Land Supply, Proserpine
Eligibility - Residents of the State of QueenslandP.O. Box 715
PROSERPINE QLD 4800
The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that Proserpine has been constrained from expanding for decades due to Agricultural zoning (Class A & B) and GQAL designations. This has prevented residential and commercial development, resulting in missed opportunities to attract major businesses such as Aldi and McDonald’s. Young school leavers face limited local employment, often leaving town, while duplication of infrastructure in Cannonvale and Airlie Beach wastes state resources and demonstrates unsustainable planning.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to intervene to make new residential and commercial land available in and around Proserpine by reviewing zoning restrictions, supporting growth where infrastructure is already in place, and encouraging businesses and residents to invest in the town.
We request the House to prioritise Proserpine as the region’s key growth area, making full use of existing infrastructure to attract residents and businesses, and maximise the town’s economic and social potential.
We ask the House to work with landowners to ensure fair compensation, incentivise reputable developers to bring investment to Proserpine, and collaborate with Canegrowers, Wilmar, and other stakeholders to ensure any reduction in cane land is managed through new farms or alternative supply from nearby areas.
