4403-26 Main Street, Proserpine upgrade request
Eligibility - Residents of the State of QueenslandP.O. Box 715
PROSERPINE QLD 4800
The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that Faust Street / Main Street is a critical piece of transport infrastructure in Proserpine, forming the main thoroughfare through the town’s Central Business District. It is a Transport and Main Roads (TMR)–owned asset and carries significant daily traffic including business deliveries, heavy vehicles accessing the Kelsey Creek Landfill, traffic to Lake Proserpine, and agricultural machinery servicing the wider region.
Despite its importance, Faust Street has not been fully resurfaced since August 1999, far exceeding accepted best-practice road maintenance intervals. The road has endured repeated major weather events, including Cyclones Ului, Dylan, Ita and Debbie, and now exhibits widespread surface deterioration, cracking, water ingress, and failure associated with ageing stormwater and watermain infrastructure beneath the roadway.
Ongoing patching and reactive maintenance are no longer sufficient and risk further deterioration, increased costs, and disruption to businesses and road users.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all within its power to ensure funding in the 2026–27 State Budget for major watermain and stormwater renewal works beneath Faust Street / Main Street, Proserpine, to enable Transport and Main Roads to undertake coordinated renewal works.
This funding should support subsequent full-width asphalt resurfacing and kerb and channel renewal, delivered via night works where possible, targeted for 2027–28.
The petitioners further request that additional “top-up” funding be committed in the following State Budget to ensure a high-quality outcome.
