The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the Australian community has lost faith in the government for not providing sufficient antisemitism laws to protect and keep safe the public from acts of hate. The public calls for new comprehensive antisemitism legislation to provide cultural change, deep rooted by way of a new kinder more empathetic nonracist community and includes the following.
- Tougher screening of visa applicants for antisemitic views, with a focus on addressing visa refusals or cancellations.
- A “report card” on universities’ handling of antisemitism on campus.
- Increasing education of antisemitism in school curriculums making it compulsory early education.
- Using “trusted voices to publicly refute antisemitic views” on social media.
- A plan to “monitor media organisations to avoid accepting false or distorted narratives” by way of serious fines to the administrators of the site.
- Stricter gun laws prohibiting ownership or use of guns in city or residential areas, excluding shooting ranges who must keep guns secured safely on site.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to support one bill that provides serious penalty and consequences to antisemitism acts, strengthening legislation on antisemitic conduct and intimidating protest activity.
