The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that Department of Housing waitlist patrons are often homeless, which is not acceptable. The department should have a service that helps waitlist patrons access interim housing. The department is failing to provide for persons in urgent need of housing on their waitlists. Waiting times for housing allocation can be up to 25 years. There is no interim housing service and no matching service, putting homeless people together into shared residential leases. The department could, in theory, gain rental homes and sublet the tenancy to those on departmental waitlists.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all within its power to provide a Department of Housing service that assists waitlist patrons gain housing while waiting for their housing allocation. Specifically, a service that matches people to available rental homes for shared living on shared lease agreements.
