This expansion is vital to meet the growing demand for specialist training in marine cabinetmaking, marine electrical, marine welding, and marine paint and powder coating, while also strengthening skills that support broader manufacturing industries across the Yatala Enterprise Area and surrounds.

Stage 2 will transform the Centre from a hub of marine skills into a comprehensive training facility, nurturing apprenticeships in electrical, welding, and other disciplines essential to Queensland’s manufacturing future. By fast-tracking this project, government can directly address the pressing skills shortage, create sustainable jobs, and bolster the state’s reputation as a leader in marine innovation and advanced manufacturing.

The Coomera Marine Precinct is Australia’s premier boating hub and a cornerstone of Queensland’s economy. Completion of Stage 2 will ensure the Centre can accommodate the growing number of apprentices required to support this thriving industry, including specialist training for superyacht construction, marine pilots, and coxswains. This investment in our youth will equip them with the expertise to thrive in an evolving global industry, while securing long-term economic benefits for Queensland.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to act decisively, ensuring additional capacity is provided to deliver sustainable manufacturing expertise and that the TAFE Marine Centre of Excellence stands as a hub of opportunity, innovation, and excellence.
