The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House to the urgent need to address the lack of formal education in digital literacy and online safety within the Australian curriculum. Despite the growing risks children face online, including cyber bullying, exploitation, misinformation, and privacy breaches, these critical skills are not consistently taught across schools as a core subject. Young people are entering digital spaces without the tools to protect themselves or others.
Every day we delay, more children are left vulnerable in a world that never switches off.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to Affirm the importance of digital literacy, online safety, and digital wellbeing for every Queensland school student from primary to secondary. Investigate what actions can be taken by the government to strengthen delivery, ensure consistency, and guarantee equal access across the state. Explore pathways for embedding these skills more formally within the curriculum, so that digital literacy and safety are treated with the same priority as other foundational subjects.
