The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House many Queenslanders do not have the option to choose from many electricity providers as we in the south east of the state do. Those not in the south east will have one or occasionally two choices meaning there is no chance of deciding on provider by the price they offer you. Many Queenslanders are missing out on cheaper power.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all within its power to ensure electricity providers make themselves available in all areas of Queensland. This would mean online smart meters being installed in all households so that the individual companies do not need to provide onsite manual reading of meters. This would allow the electricity providers to offer a wide range of prices and facilities for everyone and help reduce the cost of power for many families in Queensland.
