Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that ANZAC Day is a major commemorative event. Queensland provides a Monday public holiday when ANZAC Day falls on a Sunday but not when it falls on a Saturday. This means many Monday-Friday workers cannot attend commemorations or observe he day alongside their families. Western Australia provides a Monday public holiday for both weekend days.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to amend the Holidays Act 1983 or use existing regulatory powers to ensure that when ANZAC Day falls on a Saturday, the following Monday is declared a public holiday in Queensland.
