TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that lives are being lost, serious injuries are occurring and damage to property is happening with no accountability to cyclists, e-bike riders and e-scooter riders. Currently drivers of motor vehicles have to bear the consequences even if they are not at fault.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call upon the Minister of Transport to ensure road safety rules include motorised and non-motorised road users. In addition, we request the House to require:
- the compulsory age for e-bike riders is 16 years-of-age in line with e-scooter rider laws;
- CTP insurance for all road users including cyclists, e-bike riders and e-scooter riders;
- all road users of motorized transport to have a car licence or have completed a road safety education course; and
- parents to be made accountable for children's actions.
