The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the rules pertaining to the assessment for admission as a Barrister at Law.

Your petitioners therefore request the Attorney General and Premier take all necessary action to ensure that all current “Students-at-law” enrolled to undertake assessment for admission as a Barrister at Law under the Rules Relating to the Admission of Barristers of the Supreme Court of Queensland 1975, be permitted to complete such assessment pursuant to the stages prescribed under those rules prior to amendment. Such request is respectfully made to alleviate any prejudice which otherwise will result and be suffered arising from: • difficulties in correlating various university degrees to stages provided for under these rules and obtaining appropriate credit for achievement under these rules • disruption to careers and life plans arising.
