Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the lack of information being provided and public consultation occurring regarding the new developments for Biloela and Chinchilla Hospitals.
It is critical that new facilities, particularly in growing communities, deliver more services upon completion, not less.
Hospitals are a fundamental part of rural and regional communities, and it is critical that communities are consulted in the planning stage so that their needs and expectations are properly addressed.
Facilities for maternity services have been part of these communities for generations, and they must be replaced with these hospital upgrades. Commitments have been made to restore maternity services at both these hospitals, and these upgrades must align with these commitments.
Full consideration must also be given to services that will reduce the need for patient travel and in turn, other costs to individuals and government, such as CT Scanners, mental health beds, ultrasounds, and renal dialysis. Increased services for beginning of life and end of life care are also vital to the wellbeing of these prosperous communities.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to ensure that the new hospitals at Biloela and Chinchilla cater for the future needs of these communities by offering increased services and facilities including restored maternity services.
