TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland draws to the attention of the House that Stage Two of the Redlynch State College Multi-purpose Hall remains unfunded while Stage One is currently being built.

Redlynch State College students, staff, and the local community request that the Multi-purpose Hall be built as one project, and that Stage Two is built immediately following Stage One, for the following reasons:

• To prevent stop/start construction and disruption of students and staff.

• To create a larger space for the entire college (students and parents) to congregate for events and functions – not possible with Stage One only.

• It would be more economically viable and beneficial to use consistent contractors through-out both stages.

Furthermore, Redlynch State College is the largest school in Far North Queensland (FNQ) and is the only secondary school in Australia to offer a Certificate 3 in Live Production Services. Stage Two would allow students to continue to develop their skills and to professionally showcase the excellence programs on stage.

The Queensland Government is making a significant investment in the film and television industry in FNQ, with Screen Queensland’s new studios scheduled to open this year. Having Stage Two of the Multi-purpose Hall built immediately after Stage One will support the next generation of filmmakers to study and work in the region.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all within its power to build Stage Two of the Multi-purpose Hall at the Redlynch State College.
