The petition of electors of the Division of Douglas Shire draws to the attention of the House. We the undersigned residents and visitors of the Cow Bay area are extremely disappointed in the closure of the sand spit to amateur fishing at the mouth of Cooper Creek. This sand spit has been used to fish off for over fifty years and is the only area at our disposal with easy access for not only the children of our community but the elderly as well. This decision to not allow fishing from this small sand spit has severely disadvantaged our community in the fact that the children would have to walk or ride their bikes several more kilometres and then walk almost a kilometre through the scrub to access Noah Creek something the young and the elderly should not be forced to do.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to please reopen the sand spit only, at the mouth of Cooper Creek to amateur fishing.
