The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the unreliable supply and fluctuating voltage of electricity in the town of Taroom and surrounding area.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to: rectify the electricity supply problems currently being experienced in the town of Taroom and surrounding area. Electricity supply interruptions are being experienced almost daily. Most are momentary loss of power, sometimes a number of times per day, up to 30 over the weekend of 10 and 11 January 2004, however two recent interruptions were in the order of ten and five hours. Business houses relying on three phase power have also experienced loss of a phase on occasions. These interruptions are inconvenient and costly to residents and visitors and have caused equipment failure especially fridges and freezers subsequently incurring costs for repairs and loss of goods. Businesses are also suffering financially due to fuel pumps, ATMs, EFTPOS, computers and cash registers being out of operation or crashing during transactions as well as incurring costs for repairs to damaged equipment.
