This petition of electors of the cities of Thuringowa and Townsville draws to your attention our opposition to the Thuringowa City Council’s plan to destroy Pioneer Park, as detailed in the 83 page Riverway Master Plan Stage 1: Pioneer Park and Loam Island. We reject the sale of public land in the Park area to private developers; 60% of the Park becoming bitumen, concrete and paved areas; high rise townhouses in the Park; motels and hotels in the Park; shopping centres in the Park; all residential and commercial development in the Park; and parking fees and paying to walk in the Park.

Your petitioners therefore humbly request the Premier and the Parliament to prevent the sale of public land in the Pioneer Park area, and to mandate that Pioneer Park be retained as open parkland freely accessible to all citizens in perpetuity.
