TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House concerns in relation to the display and sale of solvents to people under the age of 17 years. We the undersigned, are concerned that retail outlets in the Townsville/Thuringowa region must ensure that solvents are not accessible for abuse, by: 1. displaying such materials only in a secure area or within sight of shop staff; 2. avoiding the sale of products to children unless accompanied by adults; 3. displaying signs indicating the shop’s right to refuse sales; and 4. refusing to sell the products to those suspected of being solvent abusers.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to legislate to prohibit the sale of solvents to people under the age of 17.
