To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. This petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House their opposition to the proposal by the Department of State Development to establish a Townsville State Development Area over the Stuart Industrial Area and the Townsville Port Eastern Access Corridor. It is the view of petitioners that this proposal is unnecessary and will adversely impact on the health, lifestyle and property values of residents. It is also the view of petitioners that this proposal will result in significant environmental impacts, both from direct loss of habitat and from the ongoing impacts on adjoining lands, waters and air quality. It is the will of petitioners that further development of heavy industry not play a major roll in the future development of the Townsville region, including the previously suggested site at Woodstock.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to withdraw this proposal and ensure that the development of heavy industry is not allowed to proceed in both the Stuart and Woodstock areas in the future.
