The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that:

There are concerns about political corruption in Queensland, beyond Gordon Nuttall's transgressions.

  1. Gordon Nuttall will serve a longer jail sentence than some murderers and rapists.
  2. The Fitzgerald inquiry into Queensland political corruption was successful because of evidence from perjurer and criminal Jack Herbert.
  3. A future inquiry into Queensland political corruption can also be successful because of evidence from perjurer and criminal Gordon Nuttall.
  4. Notes that neither the Government nor the Opposition have supported the establishment of an independent inquiry into political corruption.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to support the establishment of a Fitzgerald style independent inquiry to investigate and uncover political corruption in Queensland.
