To: the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland This petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House Wetland Destruction: The Mackay Port Authority is considering dumping dredged material from Mackay Harbour on to land on the western side of Slade Point Road, known locally as “Bedford’s Paddock”. The dumping of this material will destroy the wetland and may have an adverse effect on a protected melaleuca forest and other adjacent wetlands. Real Estate Values:

Your petitioners are also concerned about the potential impact on nearby property values from flooding and industrial development. We are also concerned about neighbours’ well-being and health. Scenic Beauty: Bedford’s Paddock is part of a Scenic Drive because of its aesthetic appeal, and for the 117 bird species it attracts to the area. This area, untouched, could be a valuable recreation and ecotourism destination for Mackay and Central Queensland. Your petitioners therefore request the House to halt the Mackay Port Authority’s actions and review all the options for the upgrading of Mackay Harbour.
