TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House Queensland is experiencing a rapid expansion of renewable energy infrastructure. Currently, there are:

  • 9 operational wind farms with a combined nameplate capacity of 2,171 MW;
  • 42 proposed wind farms totaling 24,463 MW;
  • 38 large-scale operational solar farms with a total nameplate capacity of 3,229 MW; and
  • 94 proposed solar farms with a projected capacity of 28,406 MW.

To support these developments, 577.8km of existing haulage roads and 5,761km of proposed roads for construction and access are required. The total land footprint of all existing and proposed renewable energy projects-factoring in a 200-meter buffer to address the edge effects of vegetation clearing-is estimated at 410,455 hectares.

While renewable energy forms part of a sustainable future, the scale and impact of these developments demand careful planning, environmental stewardship, and genuine community engagement.

The Moah Creek Wind Farm, located 30 km west of Rockhampton, is one such project. Approved under outdated State Code 23 assessment rules, it includes:

  • 60 wind turbines;
  • 654.3 hectares of regulated vegetation clearing; and
  • over 150 homes located within a 1.5km - 5km radius of the turbines.

In light of the recent cancellation of the Moonlight Range Wind Farm due to inadequate community consultation and the introduction of new planning legislation requiring a social licence and meaningful engagement, we call on the Queensland State Government.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to Withdraw all state investment from the Moah Creek Wind Farm.
