Queensland residents draw to the attention of the House the following in relation to the Olympic stadium/ precinct at Barrambin/Victoria Park construction:

• Unnecessary as other sites and stadia exist and could be developed more cheaply and without significantly reducing the value and accessibility of a heritage listed site.
• No public mandate: Electors voted against new stadiums. Public consultation shows significant opposition.
• Taxpayer savings: Billions can be saved by redeveloping existing facilities. These savings should go to schools and hospitals instead.
• Time constraints: It's too late for a new build at this unsuitable site. Previously progressing proposals were abandoned to "switch" to Victoria Park.
• Environmental impact: Brisbane has less greenspace than other Australian capitals. Victoria Park was designated for "rewilding" under the popular Brisbane City Council Master Plan - this should be reinstated.
• Community disruption: Extreme construction disruption due to the site's poor accessibility and proximity to hospitals, schools, and major roads.
• Unfair investment: Multi-billion dollar projects should benefit all Queenslanders, not create another Brisbane-only stadium.
• Cultural significance: Victoria Park holds deep historical importance for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.
• Heritage protection: The Yagara Magandijin Aboriginal Corporation has applied to the federal government for permanent protection under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act, recognising it as a "significant Aboriginal area".

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all in its power to stop state funding for the Olympic stadium/precinct at Barrambin/Victoria Park.
