TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the urgent need for multipurpose indoor and outdoor sporting facilities in the Gympie region.

The Gympie region is home to a thriving network of sporting groups, serving a diverse and growing population with increasing interest in sports and outdoor recreation. Despite this, the region lacks adequate facilities to meet the current and future demands of these groups and the broader community. In 2019, the Gympie Regional Council conducted a feasibility study for a Multipurpose Indoor Sports Centre. The study recommended the development of an indoor sports facility in the Gympie township to service the majority of the region's population.

However, this recommendation has yet to be implemented, leaving a significant gap in the community's sporting infrastructure.

The absence of sufficient multipurpose facilities:

• limits the ability of existing sporting groups to grow and develop;

• restricts the introduction of new sports and recreational activities to the region;

• reduces opportunities for community engagement and physical activity; and

• hinders the region's capacity to host sporting events and competitions.

As the population of the Gympie region continues to grow, the demand for quality sporting facilities will only increase, exacerbating the current shortfall.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call upon the State government to do all within its power to work collaboratively with the Gympie Regional Council to develop multipurpose indoor and outdoor sporting facilities for the region.
