TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House, shark nets pose significant harm to a range of marine life and fail to fulfil their purpose. The science is clear - the marine life captured and killed by these nets is likely to draw sharks to swimming areas rather than detract them. There are many other technologies and preventative measures, we can apply to reduce the risk of human interactions with sharks.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all in its power to remove shark nets along the coast and focus on smarter technologies.
