Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House that the current e-petition system does not allow ready analysis of the electorates to which the petitioners belong as registered voters, except in the case of those restricted to electors within a specified electorate.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to modify the system to gather this data and give interested members of the public the ability to interrogate the system to determine this information – preferably while the petition is still open but definitely once it has closed.

It should be noted that there is no intention to identify individuals, just the electorates in which they are enrolled. In this way, when a petition is raised by “Queensland Citizens” that is specifically related to a current piece of legislation, and a large number of signatures is received, electors in particular electorates will be able to see if their elected representatives actually voted in accordance with their explicitly stated, publicly recorded, wishes.
