Queensland citizens draw to the attention of the House a destructive coal mine proposed for fertile agricultural land north of Bundaberg. The Mine Development Licence, MDL 3040 was applied for to the State Government on October 8. The inferred resource is more than 174 million tons according to Fox's ASX media statement. The Mineral Development Licence area covers valuable cane and macadamia growing country, and is on the Kolan River - a vital marine breeding ground for the Southern Great Barrier Reef. The communities near the proposed mine were declared coal mine and gasfield free in 2014. The communities are calling for the MDL to not proceed under any circumstances. The MDL would not only threaten one of Australia’s largest food producing areas, but the large underground aquifers and the pristine local environment.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to urgently oppose the MDL 3040 near Avondale and not let it proceed under any circumstances.
