TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that a recent tally of half the voting population of Russell Island request the Queensland State Government replace the existing dangerous, inadequate Russell Island Rocky Point launch site to current all tide Australian marine boat ramp standards. A new Rocky Point boat ramp located at the south west of Russell Island, will provide launching facilities for the community; in addition the boat ramp will also provide alternative emergency access in the event Russell Island's central road access from the north is obstructed by fire or any other unforeseen circumstance. Russell Island is 8 km in length.

A Rocky Point boat ramp at the southern end is a sensible request. The Redland City Council Russell Island disaster plan, states the Rocky Point launch site is currently only useable by small watercraft; therefore upgrading the Rocky Point launch site to Queensland Government boat ramp specifications will also enable evacuation and emergency response vehicle watercraft to use this facility in the event of disaster.

An alternative escape is recommended in the Redland City Council Fire Management Plan Review 2017 and supported by the recent Moreton Bay Combined Islands Association petition.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all within its power to ensure funding, approval and installation of an all tide boat ramp suitable for recreational, emergency and evacuation vehicle barge use at Rocky Point Russell Island.
