Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House, the urgent need for the parole board to reject any application for parole submitted by Francesco Surace, who is serving an 11-year sentence with a non-parole period of 8 years. This individual's heinous actions have inflicted irreversible harm on innocent lives and continue to pose a significant threat to public safety.

On Boxing Day, 26th December 2016, Francesco Surace callously used a sawn-off shotgun to perpetrate a violent shooting, resulting in devastating consequences for the victims involved. One victim suffered permanent loss of sight in one eye, permanent nerve damage and facial injuries requiring surgery to implant a metal plate. The other victim sustained critical injuries to their torso causing permanent impairment. The trauma inflicted by this reprehensible act continues to haunt the victims and their families, leaving them in constant fear of further retribution.

The weapon used in the attack has never been recovered, leaving open the possibility of future violent acts. Granting parole to Francesco Surace would not only minimise the severity of their actions but also jeopardize the safety and well-being of the community at large.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House do all in its power to ensure, in the interest of justice and public safety, that the parole board is urged to deny any application for parole. The community stands united in ensuring those who commit such atrocities are held accountable for their actions and justice is served for victims and their families.
