The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that the signatories to this petition want the town of Eudlo to retain a rail service with a railway station in or near its present location when the upgrade of the Landsborough to Nambour railway line occurs. The existing service is of great importance particularly to many elderly residents and the station location is ideal, both for walking access and security. There is scope to increase the use of the rail service particularly by students from the Eudlo area who attend Nambour High School. The patronage of the railway helps the continued viability of the local general store both through ticket sales and other purchases by rail travelers when in the store. As the rail upgrade is supposed to improve services and encourage the use of public transport any relocation of the railway to a corridor that denies Eudlo a rail service is short sighted. We understand the Government is yet to receive the consultants report on the preferred corridor. Your petitioners therefore request the House to advise the Minister for Transport of the importance the community places on the town of Eudlo retaining a railway station.
