TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that the water security of the Atherton Tablelands/Cairns Basin is being distorted by the Queensland Water Act allowing the Barron Hydro to be supplied without allocation above Tinaroo Dam Yield in breach of the 2005 COAG water reforms and outside the water market established in 2005.

The secret distorted Queensland water market has allowed the foreign owned Atherton Tablelands Sugar Mill and others the 10 year opportunity from 2005 to purchase Barron/Tinaroo Allocation at $400 to $700 per ML. The Cairns people have missed out, asking price is now $4,000 per ML for Permanent Allocation. Tinaroo Dam at 50% has not been filling in recent wet seasons.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to have the Barron Hydro Corporation purchase all the Tinaroo Dam storage water it uses including the river environment releases inside the Water Market; and to make the Queensland Water Market fully online transparent including corporation to corporation.
