TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House our concerns with the affirmation model of gender care provided to Queensland children with gender dysphoria.

Commissioned by the UK’s National Health Service, the Cass Review Final Report reveals there is no clear evidentiary basis for medical gender affirmation therapies in children. The review confirms that the evidence for puberty suppression and cross-sex hormone treatment is of such poor quality that no foundation exists for clinical decisions and informed consent. Recent document leaks from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) have also revealed internal discussions among surgeons, therapists and activists, laying bare the flawed rationale behind transgender treatments and surgeries. Medical professionals must be allowed to use their trained professional discretion to take a cautious clinical approach to gender dysphoria.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to:

1. Suspend all medical and surgical transitioning treatments for children in Queensland to protect them from further injury;

2. Commission an independent inquiry, similar to Cass Review, into gender care to investigate the legitimacy of the gender treatments provided by Queensland gender clinics and explore a better and more scientific alternative to treat gender dysphoria among children.
