Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the immediate need to stop an application by Glencore to pump their carbon emissions into the pristine Great Artesian Basin (GAB) and to prevent any future such applications.

Pristine water in the GAB underpins the viability of inland Queensland and Australia. Hundreds of communities, industries, and tourism, all supporting $13 billion each year rely on this natural resource.

Without immediate intervention the GAB is at dire risk from Glencore’s plan.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to immediately protect the GAB from any injection of carbon emissions by putting in place regulation prohibiting Carbon Capture and Storage in the GAB.
