TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that your petitioners have growing concerns regarding the lack of progress towards a transition to a sustainable, low emission, renewable energy system for Queensland. We, the petitioners, would like to see:
- Much faster development of new utility-scale renewable energy projects in Queensland that are required to replace old, polluting, expensive and unreliable coal and gas-fired power generation assets.
- Reversal loss of regional economic development potential caused by the cancellation of wind farms based on unsubstantiated claims of adverse environmental impacts and objections from unaffected non-residents.
- Faster approval of transmission lines bringing clean renewable energy from remote Renewable Energy Zone to major urban and industrial areas.
- Introduction of a State Government educational campaign to correct the rampant exaggerations and misinformation circulating in the community about the impact of renewable energy assets.
- Increase of State Government investment in, and delivery of, charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, particularly in regional areas, and the reinstatement of the Yurika EV charging infrastructure team within Energy Queensland.
- Incentives and fast-tracked approvals for owners of commercial and industrial buildings to install light-weight solar systems.
- The Queensland Government assume responsibility for its share of emissions reductions required to meet the national targets of 62% to 70% by 2035.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to act with all possible speed and determination to give effect to our desired outcomes.
