The petition of citizens and residents of south-east Queensland draws the attention of the House to the much delayed $134 million Smartcard electronic ticketing system. Your petitioners note that the Bligh government - (a) has deliberately reduced the number of newsagents contracted to sell Smartcard; (b) has failed to guarantee that commuters will be no worse off under the Smartcard system; (c) has failed to explain how the "frequent traveler discount" will work under the Smartcard system; Therefore your petitioners request the House to call on the government to ensure fair negotiations are undertaken with Newsagents representative bodies to develop a model contract for the distribution of Smartcards through newsagents; and further that the government reviews the phase out of the ten-trip saver and guarantees that no commuters will be worse off under the Smartcard system.
