The petition of residents of the State of Queensland in the City of the Gold Coast draws to the attention of the House that this city is one of Queensland's fastest population growth areas. The Gold Coast also continues to attract many thousands of tourists annually from all over the world. Its citizens and visitors are entitled to expect their personal safety and security to be given top priority. Police service at the highest possible level is therefore necessary, utilising the most modern equipment available. To provide the best possible service in terms of search and rescue, and apprehension of wrongdoers, a helicopter for exclusive use by the Police Service must be stationed on the Gold Coast. Your petitioners therefore request the House to make the appropriate arrangements for such a helicopter to be based permanently in the City of the Gold Coast as a matter of urgency.
