This Petition of residents of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the proposed forced amalgamation of the four Tableland Shire Councils of Atherton, Eacham, Herberton and Mareeba as recommended in the Report of the Local Government Reform Commission. This massive change to our grass-roots level of government is strongly opposed as unjust, unreasonable, unwanted and against the wishes of the people. Your Petitioners therefore request the House to reject the recommendations of the Commission and allow the four Tableland Councils to continue to serve their shires in their existing forms.
