TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
The petition of electors of the Division of Fitzroy draws to the attention of the House that the undersigned consider the Duaringa Shire socially, culturally and economically sustainable and accordingly it should remain as a "stand alone" Council providing the full range of local government services commensurate with the aspirations of the communities within the existing boundaries of the Duaringa Shire. Your petitioners therefore request the House to restore faith in democracy and trust in the Queensland Parliament by recognising that self-determination is the driving force of local rural communities and that the State's Local Government Reform Agenda denies Duaringa Shire citizens a proper and fair say in the future of our local Council.
