The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the recent serious car accident involving nine year old Shannon McKean. Shannon is currently in a serious condition in hospital; his injuries may not be as serious had the car that struck him been travelling at the safer speed of forty kilo metres per hour. The current speed limit is sixty kilometres per hour on the D'Aguilar Highway, directly in front of Woodford State School. Your petitioners therefore request the House to designate a forty kilometre school zone on the D'Aguilar Highway, directly in front of Woodford State School in order to prevent further serious accidents involving our children.
