The petition or residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the dangerous situation created when pedestrians cross Mapleton Road at Nambour Heights, Nambour, especially in the vicinity of the shops on the corner of Mapleton Road and Isabella Avenue. The speed and density of the traffic using this section of the Mapleton Road is making it difficult for the many elderly residents of this area to safely cross the busy Mapleton Road. The safe crossing of this road will become more difficult when a proposed medical clinic is opened at the shopping centre. The completion of Windsor Road would link Mapleton Road with Perwillowen Road thus spreading the traffic, but the Maroochy Shire Councilor for the area says that Windsor Road will not be complete until 2012. Your petitioners therefore request the House to prevent a serious accident by providing a pedestrian crossing in this vicinity as soon as possible.
