The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the urgent need for a CT Scanner to be placed at the Maryborough Base Hospital Accident and Emergency Department as currently patients have to be conveyed to the Hervey Bay Hospital. This overtaxes the ambulance service and potentially compromises the patient with the transport that is necessary at present. Your petitioners therefore request the House to supply a CT Scanner to be based at the Maryborough Base Hospital to allow the hospital to be a stand alone unit with the capacity to appropriately assess and treat a patient, especially with its proximity to the Bruce Highway The Maryborough Chamber of Commerce are willing to contribute to the cost of this vital service for the Maryborough and surrounding areas in conjunction with the State Government.
