TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House a massive environmental disaster on the 25th and 26th August 2005 caused by the fire at the pesticides manufacturer Binary Industries at the Narangba Industrial Estate. The petitioners are gravely concerned that the government has not informed the community about the full extent of the health and environmental damages caused by the fire and as a result they may have placed the health of citizens at further risk as the lack of information may have caused a delay in medical treatment being sought. Your petitioners therefore request the House to: immediately release all reports and supporting documents on this matter without deletion (save for the names and personal details of any complainants noted therein) on this matter immediately establish an independent and unfettered investigation into possible links between the Binary fire of 25th and 26th August 2005 and any detrimental medical and environmental conditions reported thereafter.
