Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House the lack of public awareness or knowledge when it comes to acceptable noise levels emitted from home stereos and home theatre systems etc as police response to this can be slow or non-existent (despite their best efforts they are generally attending more important matters). Many people believe any noise between 7:00 am – 10:00 pm is acceptable, however, this is not the case – sounds that disrupt the quality of living for residents is deemed noise, regardless of the time of day. There appears to be much confusion and lack of knowledge regarding this issue. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to create a campaign that will bring public awareness to this issue of excessive noise and to make people aware of their rights and obligations. Residents have the right to live comfortably in their community without being subjected to intrusive noise. A new system is needed to clarify acceptable noise levels.
