Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the request by the residents of Coochiemudlo Island to legalise the use of golf carts on the public roads of Coochiemudlo Island. Coochiemudlo Island residents have been active for several years to be allowed to drive golf cart type vehicles on the public roads of Coochie. Coochie is an unique environment, being an island with less than 1,000 residents. From previous campaigns residents achieve lower speed limit of 40 kmh. Golf carts have been used safely for decades in areas such as Hope Island and Sanctuary Cove. Electric golf carts in particular are an environmental bonus. Electric carts would reduce the use of petrol on the island which has to be brought over in cans on the barge or ferry. Emission controls on cars require a high operating temperature. Coochie being so small the cars never achieve optimal operating temperature resulting in a much higher emission production per car.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to legalise the use of golf carts on the public roads of Coochiemudlo Island.
