Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the need for a new traffic warning sign text. Existing signs displayed during wet weather displaying “Rough Road Ahead” do not adequately inform motorists about the number, size nor depth of potholes in the poorly maintained state roads and highways ahead. Existing sign “Rough Road Ahead” may be adequate on the Peninsular Development Road (PDR) to warn 4X4 drivers of uneven road ahead. It is impossible to see the size, extent or depth of pot holes on unlit highways at night when they are full of water, sometimes during daylight hours when raining potholes cannot be seen either.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to take immediate action to have newly worded signs added to approved signage displaying words like “Large Multiple Pot Holes Ahead” or “Drive on this Queensland Government Highway at your own risk”.
