Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that there is no seamless bikeway that connects the community of Rochedale to Eight Mile Plains Park and Ride Busway, the Veloway to the City, and to the suburbs of Wishart and Upper Mount Gravatt.

This lack of local infrastructure poses a high risk to the safety of bike users when commuting from Rochedale to Eight Mile Plains Park and Ride Busway, the Veloway to the City, to Wishart and to Upper Mount Gravatt.

Bikeway users are required to navigate grass or dirt footpaths, busy, narrow and highly congested Council roads, unsealed paths, heavy vehicles and the dangerous Brisbane Urban Corridor (Mt Gravatt-Capalaba Rd) and busy intersections between these suburbs. This area of the Electorate is an emerging and fast-growing community with many individuals, families and seniors who are active bicycle commuters.

Your petitioners, therefore request the House to do all within its power to urge Brisbane City Council and the MacGregor Ward Councillor to immediately commence community consultation and the allocation of the financial resources needed to construct the new bikeway connecting Rochedale to Eight Mile Plains Park and Ride Busway, the Veloway to the City, to Wishart and to Upper Mount Gravatt.
