Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House there is an incongruity of laws and rules and decision making processes with regards to nuisance, smoke and pollution caused by wood burning fires indoors and outdoors in our suburbs and towns. State parliament says it is a local council problem, my council says it can only look at outdoor fires, both council and the Department of Environment can only act after the problem has happened.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to protect those suffering from smoke, pollution and nuisance and ban all wood burning fires indoors and outdoors. Technology allows people to have all the heating and cooking facilities without the need to cause smoke, pollution or a nuisance. Change the laws so that the state can ban all indoor and outdoor wood burning fires before winter starts.
