Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House an overly cautious approach to psychedelic legislation is preventing access to treatment that could be curbing the suicide rate, improving quality of life and saving millions of dollars wasted by ineffective pharmaceuticals and recidivism at psychiatric hospitals.

The principal petitioner and many other patients, can attest to the ineffectiveness of current treatments available and mounting costs due to repeat hospital stays and medication.

These substances have been shown to have lower addictive and lethal effects than current legal substances such nicotine, alcohol or even coffee in the case of LSD and psilocybin. Furthermore a controlled environment with trained therapists, effectively eliminates all risks the drugs have shown in uncontrolled use. Most importantly, they have shown 60-80% efficacy in treating root causes in a number of psychiatric disorders, namely PTSD and depression, with long term positive effects.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to legalise the use of psychedelics including but not limited to MDMA, Psilocybin, Ketamine and LSD for use in psychedelic assisted psychotherapy.
