TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the need for the complete resurfacing of Beerburrum Road (between McDougall Road and Eaton Road - a distance of less than 2km) to address the dangerously uneven surface and to avoid serious motor vehicle and cyclist accidents.

This road is a key connecting route between Caboolture and the Steve Irwin Way. It services Elimbah and Beerburrum but with the roadworks on the Bruce Highway, it also operates as a busy alternative north-south route.

Despite several requests to have this road resurfaced, the Government's response has been to reduce the speed limit from 100km/hr and 80km/hr. The Government widened the shoulders on the road several years ago but didn't address the surface at the same time. The shoulder widening made the road even more dangerous by creating a hollow which is unable to be seen by drivers, causing vehicles to abruptly swerve to the left.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all within its power to have the Department of Transport and Main Roads resurface this stretch of Beerburrum Road and to return the speed limit to 100km/hr.
