The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the proposed demolition of the Harold Walker Jetty at Dunwich/Goompi on Minjerribah/North Stradbroke Island. Twelve years-old Island local, Jiah Fisher, organised a protest on 24 January 2021 to save he Harold Walker jetty from demolition. We too, do not want the Harold Walker Jetty demolished. This Straddie icon is an important facility for our community, especially our youth.  The jetty provides a space for our youth to gather and catch fish - a staple part of our diet. Many of the youth share their catch with community Elders, carrying on their taught cultural obligations.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to support the community, in particular the youth of the Island, by not proceeding with the demolition of the Harold Walker Jetty and investigate repairing the current structural concerns in order to make the facility safe for continued use.
