TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the need to implement harsher punishments for motorists who do not secure their vehicle loads in an appropriate manner.

Regularly we see equipment and materials laying on or beside roadways due to unsecured or inappropriately secured loads. This places other motorists at risk of vehicle damage and even life-threatening situations.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to increase penalties to 4 demerit points and $1,000 fines for those in breach. This copies the recent increase in penalties for using a mobile phone whilst driving as it also potentially places motorists in life-threatening situations.
